Defensor-Santiago Leads PUP Senatorial Poll

PUP manila-March 6, 2010-Miriam Defensor-Santiago guest candidate of Nacionalista Party topped the first PUP senatorial poll conducted within 13 out of 17 colleges of the main campus.

The survey was conducted to pulse the largest university in the Philippines in terms of population in this coming May 2010 National Elections focused in the senatorial race. With over 52,000 students, PUP has possibly got the most number of registered voters studying in one school.

Of the 400 respondents aged 18 years and above polled from February 5-12, 32.75% said they would vote for Santiago and at high 70.75% of the total respondents said that they would consider voting the re-electionist over other senatorial candidates.

When asked about their considerations in choosing their candidates-to-vote, over 76% of the total respondents said that it’s the candidate’s experience that they would consider first; Personality (60.25); Political Issues (54.5); Political Ads (18.5) came 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th respectively. While survey results, recommendation from relatives and testimonials from artists were least considered.

Other candidates with statistically chance of being voted by PUP students are: Senator Pia Cayetano (26.75); Ilocos Norte congressman Ferdinand ‘bongbong’ Marcos (25.75); former Senator Ralph Recto (23.5); Ana Theresia ‘Risa’ Hontiveros Baraquel (22.75); Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile (21.25); Franklin Drilon (17.75); Senator Jinggoy Estrada (16.75); ZTE star witness Jose De Venecia III (16.5); former broadcaster and Cavite Congressman Gilber Remulla (15.5); wife of the late Raul Roco, Sonia Roco (15); and Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo (13.75).

Nacionalista Party emerged victorious as they bagged 4 out of the 12 senatorial posts which includes Santiago, Cayetano and Marcos on the 3 highest positions and Remulla on the 10^th. Liberal Party of Aquino also got 4 out of 12, Recto (4^th); Barraquel-Hontiveros (5^th); Drilon (7^th); Roco (11^th). Partido ng Masang Pilipino of Estrada got 3 slots, the 6^th, 8^th and 9^th.

As the research said, having close chance on making it for senatorial seats were Lakas-Kampi-CMD senatorial candidate Ramon ‘bong’ Revilla Jr. (13.5); Ocampo’s colleague Liza Maza (13.25); Atty. Adel Tamano and Col. Ariel Querubin (both 12.75); Host and former Senator Vicente Sotto III (11.75); Sergio Osmena III (11); Radio Caster Rey Langit (10.25) and Ruffy Biazon (9.75)-all ranked 13^th-20^th respectively.
